We have, since 16 February 2010, 22 180Nu Sharp photo voltaic panels producing 180 watts maximum each. Anticipated output is 3301 kWh per year based on NASA irradiance measurements for Cambridge UK. Save about 50% off electricity bill, 50% of production balance back to utility company at 40% of (usage) cost. In addition, through government's feed in tariff am paid 359% (of anticipated 3301 kWh output per year based on NASA irradiance measurements for Cambridge UK) of electricity usage cost, for 25 years, non-taxable & inflation linked. All this amounts to a 11-12 year pay-back, but a working life of at least 25 years. Look up Wikipedia 'feed in tariff'.
These 22 panels cost me about £18500. I got a £2.5k grant for getting into the feed in tariff scheme early (i.e., before April 2010). The cost of out electricity is about £0.12 per kWh. We will make savings of about £198 per year from incoming electricity & sell (at £0.05 kWh) £83 per year which the two totalled together gives £281 per year or a 57 year payback (even considering the grant)!! But the feed in tariff will give us, £0.413 per kWh generated, £1363 per year, which added to the £281 per year gives £1644 per year, or 10 year payback (with the £2.5k grant included). And that £1644 in non-taxable, index linked to inflation and goes past 10 years when the panels are paid off for another 15 years to 25 year total (from now).
I am willing to talk to and show any of the community in Oundle and the surrounding district the panels and supporting equipment. Just email first.
