Oundle Transition Town Group

About the awards

These awards encourage communities, whatever their size - a parish, a village, a block of flats, a group of neighbours, a school group or a more formal voluntary group - to tell us what they are doing to improve their quality of life for now and future generations (Sustainable Development). The aim of the awards is to raise awareness of action that is being taken throughout the County to improve our quality of life and to get communities to think about what they can do collectively then to celebrate good practice. This is the twelfth year that the awards have taken place. Oundle Transition Town Group won two awards; one from East Northamptonshire and the overall award for the county for 2011.

Household Energy Surveys

Our project which has been spearheaded by John Flory is to train 10 volunteers to conduct Household Energy Surveys.

We've recently obtained a grant from the Regional Climate Change Skills Fund: Growing Friendly Communities to train 7 volunteers to carry out the surveys. Instead of 7, 11 volunteers have been recruited and will conduct surveys at one per month per assessor. Each survey will be followed by a report on how to reduce energy use & cost. We plan follow ups to see what actions followed the report.

Although due to finish in February, we want to continue until the local demand is satisfied. We are also planning to purchase an infra red camera to help householders see their heat losses.
